Name That Pup
Our Otter Pup Needs a Name
Name Our Pup!
Earlier this year we were delighted to announce the exciting arrival of a new Asian Small-Clawed Otter pup, home to the only family present in Northern Ireland. Now 5 months old, the playful male pup (pictured) has settled in well at Exploris Aquarium and enjoys swimming, eating and playing with his family. However he doesn’t have a name yet and this is where we need your help!
In this extra-special competition we’re giving you the chance to name the pup and meet him when you visit Exploris Aquarium with your class mates for a special guided tour.
5 fun facts about the Asian Small-clawed otter
They are the smallest of the species and can weigh up to 5kg.
In captivity They spend 50% of their time in water and 50% of their time on land.
In the wild up they can live up to 10 years; around 11 years in captivity.
Their diet consists primarily of crabs, other crustaceans, molluscs and fish.
They use their sensitive vibrissae and adapted paws to search under rocks and mud to find their prey and prefer to hunt in shallow water.
Our otter pup is a boy. Be creative, but think of a cultural name. The parents names are Burbon and Sungari and we would like to maintain this theme.
